Thaiyoobah’s Father and Elder Sister who live in the same house are Leprosy Patients. She is married with two Daughters and her husband has deserted the family.

The two daughters are doing very well in their studies. Dilsha Banu had 9 ‘A’s at GCE (Ordinary Level) Examination and is following GCE (Advanced Level) classes. Fathima Athuba always comes first in her class with constant averages around 90 in each subject.

Rotary has provided her with a sewing machine which she uses to make garments and a bicycle to help in the transport of her garments to the market and also for the two daughters to go to school. Rotary has only subsidized the purchase and she has found the balance required for the sewing machine and bicycle.

It was originally planned to provide a bicycle to D.M. Karunaratne. However, as Karunaratne had made arrangements with another donor we changed the recipient to D.M. Ukkubanda who was even more deserving.

Ukkubanda lives about 6 Km. from the main road and found it very difficult to get to town after “recovering” to some extent from Leprosy. Rotary has provided him with a bicycle which he uses to take items of produce to the market in town.

Project Cost  - Rs.  19,500.00
